Guild Wars – Game of the Year

In a recent announcement, MMORPG.com recognized Guild Wars as recipient of their Game of the Year editorial award. They say, “Guild Wars is innovative and entertaining while continuing to grow and please their fans. That’s enough to make this game the Best of 2006.” This comes after last month, when Guild Wars Nightfall was selected MMORPG of the year by the guys at Gamespy.

IMO, Guild Wars is definitely one of the best games out there. I’ve been playing it for nearly two years now, and it just keeps getting better and better. Having recently reached 3 million players, that alone is a sign of their success and innovative approach. The lack of monthly fees also adds a great deal to that experience… :)

Discover Guild Wars

The guys at Guild Wars Europe have put together a nice overview of Guild Wars, describing all three chapters (Prophecies, Factions and Nightfall). Now you can discover Guild Wars yourself, by visiting this site.

Enjoy! :)

GW Factions – Game of the Year

In last night’s award ceremony at the 3rd Annual DEMMX Conference in Los Angeles, Guild Wars Factions was announced as the winning Multiplayer Game of the Year. You can find details here. :)

Guild Wars Nightfall has been released

After the last trailer being published a few days ago, and after being officially shipped to retailers around the world yesterday, Guild Wars Nightfall has finally been released today! I had made my preorder last week, so I got the retail key earlier today and started playing for a bit before going to work.

I don’t know for sure how much time I’ll have for Guild Wars during the next few weeks, but it still remains my favourite game so far – I’ve been playing it for about a year and a half, and I’ll definitely keep on doing that if and when I find the time. I’m also one of the alliance leaders in our Romanian Guild Wars Community, so my “ingame” tasks fall far beyond that of a simple player.

If you have purchased a Guild Wars account and wish to contact me ingame, just add “T U D Y” to your list of friends. ;)

Guild Wars Nightfall WPE

As I’ve already stated here in my blog, I love playing Guild Wars. :)

The thing is, this weekend is a really cool one, since it’s the weekend of the World Preview Event for the next GW chapter, Nightfall. What does this mean? FREE access for anyone who wants to try out Guild Wars, more precisely the new chapter due to be released next month.

You can find all the details about how you can connect and play on the Nightfall Preview Event page. So, if you wanna give it a test run, grab that client, enter the activation key and start enjoying the game this weekend. The Nightfall World Preview Event will begin September 22 at 12:01 a.m. PDT (7:01 a.m. GMT) and run until 11:59 p.m. PDT on September 24 (6:59 a.m. GMT, September 25).

My new toy has arrived

A couple of days ago, I’ve received my Top Gun AfterBurner Force Feedback Joystick. :)

Here’s a quick description:

Prepare to be blown away by some truly incredible Force Feedback effects! The Top Gun™ AfterBurner™ Force Feedback joystick is the first joystick combining a full size detachable throttle with Idle and Afterburner settings plus powerful Force Feedback effects to thrust you right into the game. The Top Gun™ AfterBurner™ Force Feedback joystick also features 8 programmable buttons, an 8-way hat switch with point-of-view capabilities and an original design that has been widely praised by gamers and the trade press alike. Now you can feel the blast from missile launches, rattle through rough crash landings and get a healthy dose of shell-shock from head-on collisions. Adrenaline rush, anyone?

And the features:

2 motors in joystick base (Immersion TouchSense™ technology)

Full size detachable throttle with Idle & Afterburner detents

Twisting handle with locking mechanism

7 programmable action buttons with Thrustmapper software + trigger

8-way hat-switch

Dual rudder: twisting handle and rocking button on throttle

Ergonomic rubber-textured grip

Comfortable enlarged hand rest – Rubber-textured grip on handle and throttle

Stable weighted base with non-slip rubber pads & spare wing

Up to 60 programmable functions thanks to Thrustmaster® programming software

The Force Feedback effects on the joystick are simply awesome. I’ve been playing the demo for Microsoft Flight Simulator X, and now I’m definitely waiting for the full version to come out (oct/nov 2006), so that I can purchase it. Until then, I’ll stick to X3:Reunion, which I bought through Steam earlier this month.

Two Million!

In a joint press release issued by NCsoft and ArenaNet, the companies confirm that the Guild Wars franchise has sold more than 2.000.000 units. In addition, the release confirms that Guild Wars was the top-selling PC game for the month of May 2006.

The thing is, unlike other MMO-s where players are divided into realms/servers/etc. and there are never more than 40-50.000 players on the same server, Guild Wars has a seamless world, where everyone can play with everyone else. So that means ANet has 2.000.000 people all playing the same game. Awesome stuff! :)
