Finally, back home

Yeah, I know I haven’t been updating my blog lately, but I’ve been mostly away (travelling) for the past couple of months. Here’s what’s been keeping me busy:

  • a 3-week trip to the US, visiting Seattle/Bellevue/Redmond (MVP Summit), New Jersey/New York (SolarVPS HQ), Miami (Parallels Summit) and Las Vegas (Channel Partners Conference); had a great time with Ross (@solarvps), Jason (@dedicatednow) and Bogdan (@bogdanfetita)
  • a 4-week national launch tour for System Center Essentials 2010, along with Adrian Stoian (System Center MVP), covering 9 events in 5 cities around Romania (Bucharest, Cluj, Timișoara, Iași and Brașov); we’ve had somewhere around 500 people attending the events
  • 15 airplane flights (that’s an average of one every four days) on 6 different airlines
  • 8 train rides (each with an average timespan of 7-8 hours)
  • 30.000+ km in total (flights, trains, etc)

All in all, even though it’s been very tiresome, I had a lot of fun! :)

Now that I’m back, besides the fact that I’m (hopefully) done travelling for a while, I’ll be spending some time catching up with some of the pending stuff, and I’ll also go back to work on a little project that I’ll be announcing soon.

On a side note, Visual Studio 2010, .NET 4 and Silverlight 4 are out, and Office 2010 and SharePoint 2010 RTM-ed and will be coming out soon. :D

The 2010 MVP Summit experience

I’ve just returned from this year’s MVP Summit, and it’s been quite an experience! Got the chance to talk with a few fellow MVPs, and most of all, got to spend a couple of amazing days with Ben, Mike and the rest of the Virtualization team in the Microsoft Campus over in Redmond (or the “NDA Campus”, as people ended up calling it on twitter, due to obvious reasons). We were among the few “privileged” MVPs that got a good load of “super duper secret special NDA” material. But all I can say right now (while still under NDA) is that really cool things are coming, and they’re well worth the wait! :)

The Sheraton in Bellevue was also a very nice location to stay in, and Bellevue in itself is quite a treat. The flight to New Jersey wasn’t as pleasant as I would have expected though, but hey – you win some, you lose some, I guess.

I’ll be staying in the US for another 2 weeks or so, getting to go to New York, Miami and Las Vegas. Should be fun!

ATC – Green IT

This Wednesday (October 21st, 2009), I’ll be in Bucharest, attending the Agora Technology Conferences – Green IT session, where I’ve been invited as a speaker. So, if you’re in the area, you’re free and you’re interested in the topic, you might consider attending.

There’s no entry fee. :)

LATER EDIT: Here’s the full presentation (I used a shorter version during the event itself):

LATER EDIT 2: Here’s some pictures and videos from the event.

Going to TechEd ITPro in Barcelona

Yes! Thanks to Microsoft Romania, I have been given the opportunity of attending this year’s IT Professionals conference at TechEd in Barcelona. I’ll be in Barcelona during November 3rd – November 7th November 10th (apparently, I’ll also be attending an invite-only User Groups conference taking place in between the two TechEd events), staying at the Duques de Bergara Hotel, somewhere really close to the world-famous “La Rambla” (and actually not really that far from the International Convention Center in Barcelona, where the TechEd event takes place).

There’s lots of interesting speakers, so it should be fun! :D

Going to Galaciuc, again

After a break last year, I’m going to the Infoeducatie contest in Galaciuc (August 4th – August 10th) again. Just like 2 years ago, I’ll be part of the jury, and I’ll also hold two seminars, one on “Social engineering and hacking ethics“, and the other on “Perspectives in IT“.

Academic Tour update

Another long (but fun) Academic Tour week got to an end: UBB Cluj (last Friday), Oradea (Tuesday), Târgu-Mureş (Thursday), and UTCN Cluj (today) were the past 7 days’ events. All in all, the speeches were well received, with the only remark that in some isolated cases, part of the audience had trouble related to the topic at hand.

For instance, my presentation, being a bit more in-depth than the others, and addressing a smaller scale of the audience, was at times ill received for the sole fact that people weren’t particularly interested in the subject (most of the people in the audience were developers, not sysadmins). That’s why I got a few conflicting remarks on the feedback forms, stating, for instance, on one hand, that more examples were needed, and on the other hand, that there were too many examples. :)

Even so, the people seemed to have enjoyed the events, and were definitely thrilled to have attended. Right now, I’m going back to packing, since I’m leaving for StudIT in Timisoara first thing in the morning, where I’m invited as a guest speaker.

TechEd, quick overview

I’ve been extremely busy during the last week. I’ve started to write a longer review of my trip to TechEd-Developers in Barcelona, and I’ll post it as soon as it’s done. For now, here’s a set of pictures I took while being there.
